MICRO NEEDLING
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin procedure that uses very fine, short needles to create tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production, which are essential proteins for maintaining smooth, firm, and youthful skin.
How It Works
During a microneedling session, a specialized device — often a dermapen or dermaroller — is gently passed over the skin. The process may sound intimidating, but the needles are extremely small and treatments are generally well-tolerated. A topical numbing cream is typically applied beforehand to minimize discomfort.
As the skin heals from the micro-injuries, new collagen forms, helping to improve skin texture and tone over time.
What Conditions Can Microneedling Help With?
Microneedling is often used to improve the appearance of:
-
Fine lines and wrinkles
-
Acne scars and other mild scarring
-
Enlarged pores
-
Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
-
Stretch marks
-
Overall skin texture and firmness
While results can vary, many people start to notice improvement within a few weeks, with continued progress over a few months as collagen production increases.
What to Expect
Microneedling is typically done in a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart, depending on individual goals and skin concerns. The procedure itself usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
After treatment, mild redness and sensitivity (similar to a sunburn) are common and usually resolve within a day or two. It’s important to follow post-treatment care instructions, including avoiding direct sun exposure and using gentle skincare products.
Is Microneedling Right for You?
Microneedling is considered safe for most skin types and tones, but it may not be suitable for those with certain skin conditions like active acne, eczema, or rosacea. A consultation is key to determine whether this treatment aligns with your skin’s needs and your personal goals.
